Actiu hosts ‘Pioneers in action’ against climate change
The Actiu Technology Park, in Castalla, was the host for the workshop for the exchange of experiences, organized by Alicante University, amongst researchers from UA and 14 International participants from the Pioneers in Action program. This is a program being developed within the framework of the European Community of knowledge and Innovation on Climate Control (Climate-KIC), in which the Community of Valencia and 5 other European regions participate, as well as, academic institutions of excellence and large European companies.
Pioneers in Action is a program whose commitment is to produce a new generation of specialists, entrepreneurs and executives with high level skills responsible with the transition to a low carbon economy in Europe. Actiu was selected as the host for this meeting precisely because of its proven track record in both production as well as social policies applied to the company.
Vicente Berbegal, president and founder of Actiu, welcomed the guests with a brief welcome speech highlighting the tradition for innovative at Actiu and its sustainable values. Berbegal explained Actiu's commitment to combat climate control, resulting in implementing sustainable productive processes, self-sufficient buildings in energetic resources ( as in the case of the Technology Park) and by promoting by example among its workers, customers and suppliers a sustainable awareness. The participants of the conference went on a tour of the Technology Park facilities and checked the ‘green conscious’ that exists at Actiu.
Celsa Monrós from the Valencian Community Foundation - European Region (FCVRE) was in charge of presenting the Pioneers in Action program from the Valencian and European point of view. The participants from the UA and the companies presented their more innovative projects which contribute to the change towards a lower carbon society.
After the presentations, we developed group work whose results were exhibited on posters in which it is possible to see the complementariness of the participants and their new ideas in line with the pillars of KIC Climate.
During the conference the meeting brought together international participants from the Pioneers in Action program, researchers from the UA and the companies PLAYstudio and OLAX22. Also, representatives from the Valencian Community Foundation - European Region (FCVRE) and the Management Office of International Projects (OGPI) from the Management Service of Research and Transfer of Technology (SGITT).
