Actiu passes on the baton at the National Design Awards

JULY 2020 | 2 minutes

Valencia's City of Arts and Sciences provided the exceptional setting for the King and Queen of Spain to present the 2019 National Innovation and Design Awards, highlighting the importance of Spanish and Valencian design as a tool for change.

As 2017 National Design Award Winner in the 'Business' category, Actiu was present once again, this time supplying over 300 chairs to this institutional event, held at the Príncipe Felipe Science Museum, that has become a flagship in the design industry.

Design has been a differentiating and strategic factor for Actiu for more than 50 years, something that it has in common with this year's winners, specifically Point, winner of the Companies category, Marisa Gallén, winner of the Professionals category and Silvia Fernández Palomar, winner of the Young Designers category. Fhecor Civil Engineering was awarded with an Honourable Mention.

Soledat Berbegal, Consultant and Brand Reputation Director at Actiu, stated that “the fact that Valencia is hosting the National Design Awards is recognition of the work of designers and companies that have been committed to design for many years, and of the Valencia World Design Capital 2022 project, which is a dream and an opportunity for everyone. Design is about more than just aesthetics. It must be ethical and it must serve people and society, particularly in these post-COVID-19 times. Design and industry must go hand in hand in order to understand the needs of society and the market, with a view to implementing it. In addition, governments must support design and incorporate it into all their processes”.

On stage, eight Karbon chairs, iconic carbon fibre pieces, winners of a Red Dot Product Design Award 2019, welcomed the winners while the authorities sat in different coloured versions of the Noom 50 model and the rest of the patio was equipped with more than 200 chairs from the Wing collection.

In the Innovation awards, the winners were Porcelanosa in the 'Large Company' category, Ignacio Sánchez Galán in the 'Innovative Career' category and Inmunotek in the 'Small and Medium Companies' category. ESNE received an Honourable Mention.

Actiu is also one of the eleven Valencian companies and professionals recognised by the National Innovation and Design Awards since its foundation in 1987 and, as such, took part in the tribute organised by Valencia as the World Design Capital 2022 with the support of the Ministry of Science and Innovation to Valencia in the Port Marina.

A get-together that has acknowledged companies and designers who use design and creativity to redefine processes, strategies, products, and experiences for all our benefit. These are values that Actiu shares with Valencia World Design Capital 2022, a project that it has supported and promoted from day one.
