Actiu renown as the most sustainable industry in Europe

OCTOBER 2011 | 3 minutes
Event celebrated for the Actiu LEED Gold

The US Green Building Council has awarded the company from Alicante, the LEED EB Gold certificate which recognises responsible building towards the environment and its system of exploiting natural resources.

The Technological Park from the Actiu business group received the LEED EB GOLD certificate, a recognition for sustainable buildings, which converts this company from Alicante into the first European Industry in the sector with this title that initialises the construction of responsible buildings towards the environment and whose design allows the efficient use of natural resources. The consultant CB Richard Ellis has accompanied Actiu throughout the whole process.

With the result of 77 points, Actiu is only 3 points away from achieving the Platinum certificate, a category that reaches New Construction Projects thanks to the evaluation from the initial stages of design and which is hard to reach for existing buildings, if you have not scored enough in the initial stages of the certification.

Luis Álvarez-Ude, general director of The Green Building Council in Spain, was responsible for officially granting the certification LEED to Actiu in front of more than 200 references of the world of architecture and design. All this, in an event dedicated to architecture and sustainable developments took place in the facilities that Actiu has in the business park Adequa , Madrid.

During the event, Vicente Berbegal , president and founder of Actiu, and Jose Maria Tomas Llavador , architect of Actiu Technological Park, respectively highlight the illusion that has been deposited from the beginning in this project, where the values of the company were reflected based on sustainability, architecture and the natural environment. Both projective and industrial, the creators of the park have explained all the building processes of the facilities, being the first industrial project of these characteristics that were developed by the architect Tomas Llavador.

David Lázaro, director of Engineering and Sustainability, of CB Richard Ellis Spain Consulting, has worked with Actiu during the whole process of the LEED certification, expressed his amazement and the reaction he had when he entered for the first time into the Technological Park, "I found myself  with a totally industrial project developed on the base of the efficiency of natural resources and with responsibility towards the natural environment as the basis , not only applied in construction, but in all the productive processes. Furthermore, impact on 'the park was developed with these parameters without trying to get this certificate, simply meeting the values and beliefs of which is an added value."

Finally, Carlos Lamela, international architect and reference on efficient architecture, offered a chat about sustainable buildings as a solution to the future and since this is completely compatible with technology, offers new solutions for construction.

About LEED

Leed, acronym of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design , is a system of certifying green buildings created in 1998 by US Green Building Council. It is a set of rules designed to promote the construction of sustainable and efficient buildings.

The principal objective of this certificate is to diminish the environmental impact on the construction industry which already estimates that modern buildings are responsible for the consumption of 40 % of the worldwide energy they produce.

The airport Sofia in Bulgaria , The United States Army building in Vicenza, Italy, The world Trade Centre , The Empire State Building in New York, and The HSBC Tower in Mexico City are some of the building certified by the US Green Building Council. The corporate building , Actiu Technological Park, has now been added to this list and has now become the first European Industry in the sector to obtain this recognition.

In this way, LEED certification values the incorporation of the Actiu industrial project as an infrastructure for self-sufficiency through alternative energy, technical savings, and efficient energy, mechanisms to streamline the use of water, or better the quality interior environment of the property, services to guarantee sustainable development of free spaces, the selection of used materials in the construction of the park and includes their own manufacture processes of the equipment of buildings that form part of Technological Park
