Actiu Technological Park recieves the Green Good Design Prize

JULY 2011 | 2 minutes

Actiu Technological Park, with regards to sustainability at International level, has received the Green Good design of Chicago in the sustainable planning and management of land category.

The architectural design of Actiu head quarters was designed by a Valencian architect, Jose Maria Tomas Llavador , which has been awarded The Green Good Design of Chicago for the acknowledgement of its clear commitment to sustainability. The idea of the Green Good Design, which recognises the best green and sustainable design is awarded by the Athenaeum of Chicago, Museum of Architecture and Design. Its objective is to award those jobs in professional fields such as design and architecture which involves an exceptional effort in terms of protecting our environment. The idea is combined with the need to promote sustainability and recycling, the use of smart materials, conservation of resources and a better understanding of the social dimension and context of objects and buildings that are intended to form an intrinsic part of our everyday lives and our work environments.

The Good Design was initiated in Chigago in 1950 by Eero Saarinen, Charles and Ray Eames and Edgar Kaufmann, to promote and inform the public about modern design. These awards which are issued annually are the oldest in the design world. "The Green Design award is the prize for technology research expressed in terms of sustainability, a reward for good decisions regarding materials and conservation, as well as, innovation combined with the elegance of smart design and aesthetic impact" , in the words of Christian K Narkiewicz, president of Ateneo, Chigago and director of Good design.

The facilities at Actiu Technological Park, are the emblem and axis for National and International projection. They are an icon of all possibilities of sustainability. It is a pioneering project, ahead of its time, and is now a reference for all types of buildings: optimizing energy efficiency for maximum natural light, energy production 7,000,000 kw/year - 6 times more necessary for the park, thanks to the biggest in Europe solar panels covering the industrial rooftop that prevent the emissions into the atmosphere of 8,300,000 kg of CO2 per year, a system of collecting rain water with the storage capacity of 12,000 m3 - the equivalent of 3 olympic swimming pools, the replantation of miles of native plants species that form part of interiors and exteriors. The project includes several buildings: 3 for production of 13,000 m2 each, a logistic building of 18,000 m2 and a corporate building of 6,000 m2, reaching a total surface area of 200,000m2.
