Azerbijan a country of opportunities for Spanish Small and Medium companies

JUNY 2013 | 2 minutes

Azerbaijan is a country rich in natural resources (gas and petrol) and in the process of modernization. It has a strategic geographical location which turns it into a bridge between Europe, Central Asia and the Middle East. With a sustainable developmental approach, it aims to diversify it's economy and reduce its dependency on oil. Azerbaijan is not only seeking investors, but is also looking for all the experience and growth of Spanish or European  companies and Industries, the key to the growth of it's country. It's main areas of interests focus on infrastructure  ( roads, ports, airports, universities, hospitals) but also on sectors such as agriculture and food, finance, chemistry, tourism, the renewable energy sector and telecommunications. Through this exhibition, Jesus Salvador, technical director of  the Strategic and International Studies (IEEI) of the catholic University of Valencia has informed those present today of the potential of Azerbaijan.

The conference began with an presentation of the current situation of Azerbaijan. The Azerbaijani ambassador in Spain, Altai Efendiev, expressed his commitment to provide facilities at a logistical, bureaucratic and commercial level, entry into the country for all those Spanish small and medium companies in this emerging country. They also discussed the fiscal situation in Azerbaijan, “a more simple system than the Spanish but very similar in it's approach and places great certainty with foreign investors.” explained Jordi Prats, consultant for KPMG.

The second part of the day were the two star companies,  Somhidros y Londoño Trading, which already operate in Azerbaijani market and who shared their experience. Both of these two companies, like the representative from ICEX, agreed on the need to establish business relationships with Azerbaijani in the medium term future, not to rush, not to try and get into the country alone, but better to find allies or advice within the country. And above all, be willing to give up part of your business identity in favour of collaborations, partnerships and alliances.

The president of the provincial council of Alicante, Luisa Pastor, has shown her interest in taking advantage of synergies between Alicante province and Azerbaijan, “because now export and globalization are the only motives of satisfaction and joy”, referring to the difficult situation in Spain.
