Education is undergoing a profound transformation. Today it is not only about what is learned, but how it is learned and, above all, where. In a world where people are at the centre of design, educational environments must be reimagined as spaces that not only facilitate learning, but also activate cognitive skills, foster creativity and enhance memory.

The role of the environment in the educational experience

At Actiu, space is understood as an active element in people's lives: something that not only contains activity, but inspires, accelerates and transformsit . This vision is aligned with advances in science, which show that a stimulating environment has a profound impact on learning processes.

Recent research by the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) indicates that enriched environments - those that provide sensory stimulation, social interaction and a variety of experiences - not only improve quality of life during childhood, but also trigger molecular processes that strengthen memory and facilitate learning. This scientific evidence underlines that space can be a physiological ally of cognitive development, not just a passive setting in learning environments.

Designing educational spaces is designing experiences that directly influence how we learn.

The classroom as an experience: the real case of Actiu and the UPV

A real example of how design has a direct impact on the educational experience is the WELL PilotSpace at the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), a unique classroom in Spain in which Actiu has actively collaborated. Conceived under criteria of well-being, neuroarchitecture and comfort, this space optimises concentration and attention through elements such as lighting, acoustics, air quality and flexible furniture adapted to different teaching uses. The result is an environment that puts people at the centre and demonstrates how design can improve the way we learn and relate to knowledge.

Beyond functionality: spaces that enhance thinking

A well-designed space transcends its basic functionality. It is not just a matter of having comfortable chairs or tables, but of thinking about:

  • Diversity of visual and sensory stimuli that arouse curiosity.
  • Flexible areas that promote collaboration and creativity.
  • Welcoming environments that encourage concentration and motivation.

This approach is part of Actiu's commitment to creating spaces that reflect an integral human purpose, where form accompanies function and design articulates wellbeing, productivity and learning.

The UPV's WELL Pilot Space together with Actiu demonstrates how design, when it puts people at the centre, improves the way we learn.

Designing environments that educate

When we design for education, our gaze shifts to what happens inside people. A stimulating environment not only organises the activity, but shapes the experience, generates memorable connections and supports the learning process holistically.

Designs that are designed with empathy for those who inhabit them - students, teachers and facilitators - can:

  • Enhance critical thinking by offering scenarios that invite exploration.
  • Facilitate meaningful interaction, which is key to social learning.
  • Create feelings of belonging, security and well-being, which favour commitment and motivation.

This approach makes sense not only in terms of aesthetics or ergonomics, but also in terms of its impact on the lives of learners. Space thus becomes a partner in the educational process, not a mere container.

This is the essence of the purposeful spaces promoted by Actiu: environments that breathe life, generate experiences and accompany the development of people with meaning and coherence.

Environments that connect, stimulate and transform education

Transforming education is not just a question of methodologies or technology. It is also, and fundamentally, a design challenge: the design of environments that enable, stimulate and connect. Places where every element adds up so that learning is not just an activity, but a living, shared and memorable experience.

We opened Actiu to share knowledge
Our commitment to education is also lived at home. During 2025:

  • More than 400 students have visited the Technology Park and our plants.
  • We have welcomed high schools and universities and participated in training programmes.

For many young people, Actiu is their first contact with an industrial company. For us, each visit is an opportunity to share who we are and how we work.

Collaborating to create opportunities

Throughout the year we have participated in various educational initiatives:

  • Collaboration with university programmes and master's degrees.
  • Trustees of FUNDEUN, members of the UA Social Council and participants in university chairs at the UPV and UMH.
  • Recognitions such as the Impulso Award of the University of Alicante.
  • Projects such as "Puestos Digitales 5.0", together with IES Cotes Baixes.

Actions that form part of our commitment to social responsibility, young talent and the development of our environment.
