Actiu WELL Platinum: when going to work is synonymous with well-being

Actiu WELL Platinum: when going to work is synonymous with well-being

OCTOBER 2019 | 4 minutes

Spacious landscaped gardens lead to one of the parking lots surrounded by centennial olive trees. As you walk to the corporate building, a family of ducks takes its morning walk to the pond. Along the way, you will meet several employees coming from the gym and going to their work places, ready to start their day after a workout led by a trainer. Once inside, there is light, lots of light, and more green zones to keep the interior peaceful and cool. Informal and pleasant meeting places, with large baskets of fresh fruit, combine with work spaces ergonomically designed to promote comfort, efficiency and communication.

This is the experience of a visitor who arrives at the Actiu Technology Park, in Castalla, which has become the fifth complex in the world to receive the Well v2 certificate and the first industrial building in the world to add the two certifications, Leed and Well Platinum, proving that the company's HQ is a healthy space that ensures the well-being of people.

Application of WELL Certification principles to the Technological Park has required an exercise of reflection and exchange that has translated into improvements and redesign of spaces, as well as of work routines. This experience has brought Actiu the knowledge and baggage that go into to working on interior design and equipment projects that the company tackles on behalf of their clients on the basis of the same values and principles as those promoted by WELL.

Since the start of the company, Actiu's philosophy has been based on the design and equipment of work spaces that respect the environment and are sustainable as well as healthful. This commitment is embodied in its own facilities. The Actiu Technological Park was built in 2008, according to the most advanced standards of the market, earning certification as Golden LEED in 2011 and Platinum LEED in 2017 from the USGBC US Green Building Council, a guarantee that Atiu's headquarters outstandingly meet the criteria for sustanable architecture and energy efficiency.

“At Actiu we already had a lot of work ahead of all the sustainability principles that were already applied in the construction of its Castalla Technology Park, which earned it the LEED Platinum certification. There was no doubt that the container was very efficient but we needed to provide greater well-being for people in the content, that is, inside the building. We wanted to set up a more efficient, friendlier and more collaborative space. This is a very important milestone for the company ”, says the head of corporate well-being at Actiu, Pablo Amorós, officially accredited by this certification as WELL AP.

With WELL, Actiu goes one step further and focuses on the interior of its facilities, on aspects related to the health and well-being of the people who work in that space, and that range from the lighting conditions, the ambient temperature, air quality, food, accessibility to drinking water points, and even employees' mood, in line with the Cool Working® philosophy of the brand.

“Investing in health and well-being, is investing in life. Companies need that dynamism and that human value, which is achieved by caring of the people through the space. The WELL Certification takes into account physical but also emotional well-being.”explains Soledat Berbegal, Counselor and director of brand reputation at Actiu.

The company has carried out a series of modifications that have included, among others, locating drinking water points at less than 30 meters from every work area, taking steps to promote sports, with sports trainers and an equipped gymnasium. Moreover, machines dispensing healthy food have been incorporated, along with sensors and the methodology needed to measure air and water quality, in accordance with the parameters set by WELL.

Work places have been updated with new and more dynamic furnishing programs that make it easier to communicate and collaborate, in addition to being more comfortable. Movement is key to well-being. The ability to comfortably change position throughout the day improves the physical condition of people, with greater freedom to sit or stand throughout the day. This is the guiding philosophy of models like Talent, Power and Mobility.

Interior gardens have been reinforced with "green corners" that contain vegetation, while large plate glass windows and doors allow maximum use of natural light and provide wider views of the exterior. This connection with nature is reflected in new coat racks in the shape of trees, in the wooden trimming of open shelves and in the creation of a terrace, an exterior space at the disposal of employees and visitors.

Data shows that a space designed within the parameters of WELL Certification improves the health of its occupants by 20%, creativity by 86% and productivity by 30%, in addition to serving as an incentive in the recruitment and employee loyalty, it would seem that investment in the well-being of people is well worthwhile.
