Lactiber
March 2020 | 3 minutes

The dairy brand, Lactiber, which is based in León has teamed up with Actiu to refurbish its offices in Trobajo del Cerecedo. Founded in 1970 and with a young team of more than 130 people between the factory, logistics and offices, the brand demonstrates top quality and innovation with its products, together with a work ethos that is rooted in transparency, the client’s importance and sustainability.

“Due to a large scale refurbishment that involved consolidating offices, the dining hall and changing rooms into one building, Lactiber decided to do a full overhaul of its facilities as they had become outdated and did not comply with the company’s current needs”, stated Andrea Muñoz, who is the designer along with the project’s construction company Crealia.

The operation presents a substantial change in Lactiber’s daily activity, transforming an outdated design with small, stuffy rooms, fitted out with heavy and impractical furniture and no connection between the different areas nor anywhere to receive clients, into a completely different environment.

Now the spaces are transparent, functional and ergonomic, making daily meetings and interactions amongst the workers easier, and conveying a fresh and innovative feel to clients and visitors.

With the offices open on three sides of the building (one main entrance and two side ones), the construction has involved fully demolishing the inside for a new space layout, ripping out embrasures to allow more light in, changing materials and building a new more corporate front.

Distributed across two floors, the new offices have a lower entrance level for more public spaces, with a comfortable and welcoming waiting area and a meeting room where clients and visitors can be received. The other side is occupied by the work teams, with an open space with four work stations and two closed managerial offices that are visible through glass panels.

The upper floor is larger and distributed around an L-shaped open space with work stations and two informal meeting rooms placed amongst them which allow the workers to sit down to work as a team without being too far away from their work station or disturbing other colleagues.

The first room is perfect for short meetings and is equipped with a Cool E100 high table and Whass stools for sitting or standing.

The second is designed for more private and smaller meeting, with an area boasting hidden seating behind two 360 screens. Portable, sound-absorbing and upholstered in the corporate colours, these panels separate the rooms without foregoing the continuity of the space.

On the perimeter with direct natural light are the offices and meeting and training rooms, separated from the open-plan working space by glass panels that provide spaciousness and transparency.

With a light and current design, which is overtly very functional, Actiu’s furniture equips both management and operational work positions, such as meeting and training rooms, making the project more mainstream. From TNK Flex chairs, the Vital plus table range and the melamine cupboards in management and operational areas; to the Whass chair, in its slide version in offices, with gas elevation in meeting rooms, or the stool version in the open space’s informal meeting area.

In the training room, Spacio chairs with folding legs were chosen. Light and stackable, they can easily change the layout of a room as they adapt to very different needs.

“The Lactiber team was very meticulous with the space layout and the choice of furniture for the work stations”, explains the interior designer, who has chosen warm and bright colours for an enclosure, with white walls, light-wood laminated flooring and an acoustic ceiling with natural wood chip.

With the larger pieces in lighter colours such as lime oak and white, the seating, lighting, decorative elements and flooring in certain areas are what provide the necessary touch of colour, in blue and turquoise, Lactiber’s corporate colours.

The operation was enthusiastically received by the workers, who emphasise the transparency, size and amount of light in the new space, which is a big change in comparison with their old offices.
