Sustainability, Health and Safety as Part of Our Corporate DNA

Sustainability, Health and Safety as Part of Our Corporate DNA

MARCH 2022 | 3 minutes

Sustainability and taking care of people must be the pillars of any corporate social responsibility policy in order to contribute as an engine for growth and as a value generator.

In particular, Actiu's Sustainability Policy focuses on the efficient use of resources: water, energy, renewable raw materials. Its Technology Park is self-sufficient in the consumption of water for irrigation and generates, via solar panels, more electricity than it consumes. What's more, its facilities have the Gaia by Actiu smart platform, which allows the conditions of work spaces to be monitored to promote well-being and energy efficiency.

This same sustainable philosophy has been replicated in the expansion of the Actiu 7 production plant, specialising in the panel machining and packaging process, which takes up an area of 16,500 square metres. Specifically, A7 has been equipped with a photovoltaic plant made up of nearly 700 solar panels, which will generate 466,080 kWh annually, and will allow it to use 100% clean energy.

The Sustainability Policy also includes the creation of eco-designed products in all their phases: design, materials, production, use, durability and ease of recycling at the end of their useful life, thus reducing their environmental footprint.

Furthermore, Actiu pays close attention to the entire life cycle of its products and materials linked to the values of the circular economy and local craftsmanship. From the use of recycled materials to the recycling of leftover materials, the industry must give waste and production losses a second chance.

Actiu's Second Act philosophy is the result of this process and gives a new lease of life to the fabrics that are left over from the upholstery processes that, thanks to the work of the Coba Complements creative team, are turned into toilet bags, tote bags, computer cases and backpacks.

Fluit is the result of all this. A chair with meticulously designed shapes for multifunctional environments that represents an innovation from both a technical and design point of view. A chair with a 100% sustainable concept, designed by the Italian studio Archirivolto Design, which uses both recycled polypropylene and fibreglass, and which has been included in the "Delta Selection" at the ADI 2022 awards.

Furthermore, Actiu pays close attention to the entire life cycle of its products and materials linked to the values of the circular economy and local craftsmanship. In fact, Second Act gives a new life to the fabrics that are left over from the upholstery processes that, thanks to the work of the Coba Complements creative team, are turned into toilet bags, tote bags, computer cases and backpacks.

Now the brand has taken another step forward in its commitment to people and the environment by obtaining the ISO 45001 certification, the international standard system for occupational health and safety management that guarantees ethical and healthy working conditions, as well as equality practices.

This allows it to prove that the risks of injury to its workers, collaborators and clients have been eliminated or minimised in its workspaces. The new ISO 45001 standard is also added to the ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards that Actiu already held, thus achieving an integrated system of health, safety and quality at work while caring for the environment.

This commitment to people and the environment was already recognised in 2019, the year in which Actiu's corporate headquarters became the first industrial complex in the world to be recognised with the LEED Platinum sustainable architecture and WELL Platinum certifications. A double recognition that connects with the values and philosophy of the company.
