Life Friendly Spaces

What if design spaces for living?

Life Friendly Spaces is a corporate culture model. An approach that establishes a legacy of responsibility, efficiency and respect for the environment and future generations. A commitment assumed by all the teams that make up ACTIU (workers, suppliers, etc.) positioning the industry and design as an agent capable of transforming the environment and improving people's lives through spaces together with our collaborators.

A business strategy to take our commitment to well-being, inclusion and sustainability even further and, above all, to new countries and sectors.

Our commitment

Designing the spaces of the future to be more life-friendly involves addressing a series of internal commitments that affect all areas of our company.

Agenda to bring the future closer

The next step is to take on the commitment to create products that improve spaces and spaces that improve life. It is a matter of making us participants in society in caring for both the well-being of people and the planet we inhabit by meeting current demands such as universal accessibility, regenerative systems or the promotion of health and well-being.

01

Spaces that are better to get out of than to get into

We are the first industrial company in the world to achieve WELL v2™ and LEED® Platinum certification. And we are particularly excited that, thanks to our wellness and sustainability policies, our Castalla headquarters has been officially recognised as the healthiest in Spain. Now our aim is to go further, as these awards were never an end in themselves, but a means to give back to our land and its people what they have been giving us for so many years. The next step is to collaborate with the Neuroarchitecture Laboratory of the Universitat Politècnica de València to create products and spaces that provide wellbeing based on evidence and objective data.

02

Spaces that care for the environment

We know that sustainability must be reflected not only in the production processes, but also from the very beginning: in the choice of materials used to shape an idea and create a product, as this choice will have an impact on people and the planet. Our commitment to minimising this impact is reflected in the LEVEL®2 certification created by the European Office Furniture Federation (FEMB), which guarantees that our products are socially, environmentally and economically responsible and which was awarded to us in 2024.

03

Spaces that move with you

A Life Friendly space should allow each person to experience it as they prefer. Under this premise, at ACTIU we want to promote autonomy and freedom by designing furniture that allows "hacking" the environment so that each person or each company can personalise it. The new educational, corporate, healthcare, hotel, etc. models require establishing a new dialogue with the environment through spaces that accompany the processes of change through more flexible, experiential and participatory models. Space must be a tool for transformation and change of culture.

04

Spaces where you want to meet

Spaces should be able to facilitate shared experiences and encourage interaction between people who inhabit them. Our experience tells us that it is in unscheduled encounters that the most valuable ideas are produced. And while creativity cannot be summoned in a meeting, we can make it flow better in socially oriented spaces, such as a café, a play area or an informal soft-seating space.

05

Spaces where we can all fit in

If an estimated 15-20% of the world's population is neurodivergent, a space cannot be Life Friendly without first being "neurofriendly". As a society we have been slow to understand that not all disabilities are detectable to the naked eye, but as our awareness of the importance of diversity, inclusion and equity in the workplace grows, we are understanding the need to create spaces that are not only physically accessible, but also created for neurodiverse people.

06

Spaces that respect your own space

It has been shown that exposure to excessive noise is directly related to health problems such as sleep disturbance, hypertension and cardiovascular disease, as well as complications in learning and cognition. Noise in different spaces plays a fundamental role in people's well-being. The creative and collaborative nature of new ways of working in recent years has given rise to much more open and flexible offices, where acoustics is one of the main challenges. Achieving environments with different 'degrees of privacy' in the same space is essential to provide wellbeing to its users.

07

Spaces in which to flourish

We are convinced that, for a space to be compatible with life, it must welcome life. That is why it is essential to design them to offer a unique experience of mental, physical and emotional well-being. Offices that embrace biohabitability include a number of natural features, such as plenty of natural light, good ventilation, vegetation and the use of natural and toxin-free materials. These elements work together to create living ecosystems that promote connection with nature, and therefore also health, emotions and creativity.

08

More human spaces thanks to technology

Artificial intelligence, mixed reality and the sensorisation of spaces (IoT) are emerging technologies that will bring unquestionable advances, but also challenges. We must seize the opportunity that technology provides to make spaces more human, optimising the efficiency of collaboration, modifying and creating new ways of interacting and enabling immersive experiences that can put spaces to new uses. Furthermore, spaces that fearlessly embrace technology will be able to take care of the health of those who inhabit them, for example through data analysis and real-time information.

Life Friendly Spaces

A new way of understanding spaces to make them more life friendly and in which well-being, inclusion, flexibility and sustainability are the fundamental pillars.
