´Retro-futurism´ inspires the new space that Utopicus has inaugurated on Paseo de la Castellana, in a building owned by Colonial in Madrid´s CBD (Central Business District). The company specialising in flexible space management has chosen this location because of its excellent public transport connections and also because it is located next to the city´s main access points. The building is perfectly in line with Utopicus´ philosophy, both due to its open-plan floors and versatile air-conditioning and lighting installations that allow for total distribution flexibility, as well as the terrace on the 12th floor, which gives people to opportunity to meet outdoors and take in spectacular views of the city.
In this case, Utopicus occupies four floors of a building that it shares with other companies that are part of Colonial´s client portfolio. With direct access from the street, the ground floor is divided into two independent premises, with the Club space in one, and the auditorium and events area in the other. The first and second floors house the reception, the canteen, a training room, flexible working areas and private offices; while the building´s eleventh, and highest floor, is reserved for large corporations.
The Valencian studio Más Que Espacio has designed a ´retro-futuristic´ space, which harks back to a community of collective memories where we can reminisce and learn, with the Club space inspired by the legendary series from the early 90s, Twin Peaks, directed by David Lynch, a bar area reminiscent of Edward Hopper´s paintings and the ´Kubrick´ meeting room, based on a scene from the renowned director´s film, 2001 A Space Odyssey. Therefore, up to 20 of the spaces take their aesthetic references from well-known characters, artists or works.
To make the most of the abundant supply of natural light that passes through the façades, the perimeter is reserved for operational areas and private offices, with spaces that are used less often, such as phone booths or think tanks, on the inside.
Once again, Utopicus has entrusted Actiu with the furniture for its workstations, which has opted for a neutral and timeless aesthetic that accommodates clients from all walks of life. To achieve this, the Vital PRO tables, with their straight and pure lines, are combined with the ergonomic Stay chairs that have a backrest construction that allows for greater freedom of movement. Furthermore, with the aim of users having easily accessible storage, the workstations have been equipped with Bucks pedestals on wheels.
With different layouts and capacities, and inspired by different themes in accordance with the building´s concept, the meeting rooms have been equipped with the most advanced technology. In some of them, just like in Utopicus José Abascal, it was decided to combine the Prisma table (110 cm high) with Noom stools in order to offer a meeting room format with a raised work surface, thereby favouring user well-being by giving them the option of alternating between positions.
In addition, and something different with respect to other Utopicus centres, in Castellana, the Longo table was used to equip the Club´s meeting room. A design characterised by a great visual lightness that goes perfectly with the rest of the furniture and interior design.
Despite the wide variety of colours and materials used to bring the different identity of each space to life, the general criteria was the use of avant-garde materials and trendy chromatic ranges: pastels, greys, velvets, silver. Plain fabrics, satin surfaces, geometric shapes and the absence of prints coexist with a technological, futuristic and corporate design, and furniture in which functionality and timeless design prevail.
The absence of suspended ceilings, in order to leave the installations visible, requires suspended lighting, with linear models equipped with Dali technology for maximum energy savings in the office areas, and various light sources, including suspended luminaires, wall lights and floor lamps, in the communal areas and meeting rooms.
