A new workspace at AER

Offices

Objective

With the return to 'normality', after the period of confinement forced by Covid-19, AER's managers were clear about the need to incorporate a hybrid model, alternating the 'home office' with a presence in the office.

A new way of understanding work, more in line with the needs of employees and society, through a flexible space that would allow the team to choose where to work from at any given moment and the company to save on rent, as less space is needed than with the 100% face-to-face work model.

Solution

To meet the company’s need for flexibility, Punta Terra Arquitectura, the architectural practice founded and led by architect Miguel Angel Gutiérrez, has designed dynamic offices that adapt to an ever-changing way of working. There is only one fixed, private space, assigned to the director, whilst the rest of the space consists of unassigned workstations, allowing staff to choose where to work at any given time.

Some of the features of the new workspace include large communal work tables, more private desks and high-top counters, which encourage collaboration and allow the team to work whilst seated on stools or standing, whilst maintaining the same eye level as their colleagues. In addition to different sizes and layouts of meeting rooms, there are soundproof booths for making calls without disturbing others or being disturbed, areas with armchairs that add a homely touch, and a café for informal get-togethers and relaxation.

Actiu has helped create a space that distances itself from the serious and rigid atmosphere typically associated with traditional offices, instead fostering employees’ well-being, creativity and sense of belonging to the company, with products such as the  Stay operative chair, chosen for its great versatility and freedom of movement; the Urban chair, stackable and with wheels for greater mobility; the warm and welcoming Noom 30 armchair, which enhances comfort and a sense of belonging; or the Whass stool, with an ergonomic and organic design that adapts to any space.

Fundamental in this type of open-plan space, acoustic comfort is enhanced through the use of absorbent materials such as wood, materialised in a lattice that also operates as a decorative element and hallmark of the project; upholstery or rugs.
