Infinito Delicias: art, cuisine and entrepreneurship

Workspaces

An engine of socio-cultural transformation in the centre of Madrid

Promoted and co-designed by the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation, together with the Husos and Elii studios (responsible for the architectural project and the urban and real estate research), and Ultrazul (author of the economic, management and social innovation model , and real estate research), Infinito Deliciasis born as a new cultural innovation centre in the Delicias district of Madrid, whichcombines contemporary art, cuisine and entrepreneurship.Infinito Delicias is a new centre for cultural innovation in Madrid's Delicias neighbourhood, combining contemporary art, cuisine and entrepreneurship. An open space for thought, debate, experimentation and creation, where it is possible to 'connect' worlds and try out new ways of living together and cooperating, and which seeks to become a meeting point for citizens of all ages, artists, chefs, farmers, foundations, associations, companies, public institutions and startups.

Aligned with the philosophy of the Foundation and its firm commitment to the current challenges, the ecological emergency, the increase in inequalities and social fragmentation, the initiative acts in two essential areas: sustainable food, as an integral system linked to ecology, health and social justice; and citizen art, which promotes artistic expression as a way of exercising citizenship and strengthening social cohesion.

From the outset, the Foundation has supported this project, locating its Spanish headquarters on the upper floors of the space and collaborating in its cultural, community and educational offerings through various initiatives.

Social and economic sustainability

The Holcim Awards' Gold Europa prize for sustainable construction 2023, the project proposes the refurbishment of an old industrial building to convert it into a community centre, through a 360º intervention, which , beyond the design of the space itself, addresses aspects such as urban biodiversity, the circularity of materials, energy management and the development of a sustainable business. This 360º intervention, which, beyond the design of the space itself, addresses aspects such as urban biodiversity, the circularity of materials, energy management and the development of a sustainable business. A place focused on people's wellbeing and a new urban paradigm, with a three-dimensional façade made of chestnut laminated wood as a bioclimatic envelope, which improves interior comfort and serves as a support for plant pots.

Infinito Delicias not only promotes social and cultural transformation, but also proposes a sustainable business model, demonstrating how projects with a strong social and environmental impact can be economically viable and generate changes at a local and global level.

The sustainable approach and concern for the protection of the environment of the project has led the Huselli architectural practice (UTE Husos Arquitectura and Elii) to entrust the furnishing of the centre to Actiu, which, to contrast the high presence of wood in the space, has chosen the robust Prisma tables -with recycled materials and the European Level 2 standard- combined with the Stay operative chairs.

Due to space limitations, a configuration of 120x160 cm facing workstations has been chosen, with storage Bucks that replace the traditional lockers and, equipped with cushions, also function as auxiliary seats for quick meetings between colleagues. In addition, the tables have been mechanised to accommodate flexos, thus reinforcing energy efficiency.

Infinito acts as a catalyst for its internal community and its social and cultural environment, demonstrating that new forms of collective creation, collaboration and innovation are possible.

Architecture for meeting, circulation and mix of uses

Two large communities converge in Infinito Delicias: horizontal audiences, who come attracted by cultural, gastronomic and leisure proposals; and vertical audiences, linked to innovation, entrepreneurship, research and sustainability. These two user profiles, far from functioning independently, mutually nourish and evolve each other, generating a dynamic ecosystem where cultural experiences inspire professional projects and vice versa.

This relationship is favoured by the architecture of the space itself, designed to encourage meetings, circulation and a mix of uses, through spaces such as the versatile kitchen-plateau, conceived to host events and events.conceived to host events, both standing and seated, and which Actiu has equipped with the Talent 500 table, a perfect solution due to its mobile, folding, stackable and elevating nature, which allows the spaceto be configured according to demand.

The interior design is completed with pieces designed by the artist Lucas Muñoz, such as the restaurant's chairs and tables, and two different types of lamps (all of them made from waste from his own work, which he gives a new use to).He gives them a new use); and a local vegetation that, through gardens and orchards that use rainwater, closes the food production cycle and contributes to sustainable development.
