MTG's new headquarters reflect its corporate identity

Target

Located in a building by architect Carlos Ferrater in the Olympic Village area of Barcelona, MTG 's new headquarters brings back to construction an initial structure that was badly affected by previous tenants.

The main objective of the project was to create a working environment that reflects the key values of MTG: wisdom, innovation and know-how.

The aim was to provide employees with a healthy and comfortable space that promotes productivity and well-being, while optimising the building's internal circulation and organisation.

Combining the company's three core values of wisdom, innovation and craftsmanship, Denys and Von Arend have created a space that arises from an in-depth analysis of the company, its clients, its corporate identity, its location and the building that will contain the offices.

Solution

Denys and Von Arend took a holistic approach to the project, starting with a thorough analysis of the needs of the company, its clients and corporate identity. A significant refurbishment was carried out to restore the original architectural essence of the building, removing visual obstructions and improving interior circulation.

"It took a major refurbishment to 'see' again the building that Ferrater designed", says the studio, which has recovered the perception of the interior architectural volumes, eliminated the elements that impeded the visual perspective and gained efficiency in the interior circulation: "The circulation of people in the office is important so that everything is in order and everyone has a clear and traced path. Visitors should not enter reserved areas unaccompanied and the internal circulation should be short and smooth," added Denys and Von Arend.

Although the organisation of the company is classic and hierarchical, with closed offices for the general management and the other - mostly fixed - positions in the open space, emphasis has been placed on very comfortable layouts and sufficient space between the desks. With open spaces, spaciousness, clarity and connection, the new headquarters provides a healthy working environment suitable for different tasks, where everyone has personal space to work individually.

For the meeting rooms, Urban chairs have been chosen, without arms, with a five-spoke base on castors and upholstered in the same chromatic range that colours the whole project. A 'full colour' in greys with a large number of textures and shades, among which the company's star product stands out: the red pieces of the excavator shovels.

In addition, different areas have been created in response to the different ways of working of the team. From those where they can work standing up, with wall-mounted or mobile whiteboards on wheels and a high table with stools that encourage movement and meetings between workers, to others that are more intimate and welcoming, where they can isolate themselves, have a conversation on the phone or disconnect.

To create a healthy space with the right climatic conditions, specific measures have been taken, such as the incorporation of two motorised skylights that allow light to enter the interior. As these are mobile structures, they allow natural ventilation to be created with minimum energy expenditure. To achieve a comfortable temperature, each space is provided with the appropriate climate for its use and conditions, while carpeting, flooring and wall felt, suspended acoustic panels, etc., help to maintain optimal acoustic conditions.

"We have met expectations: the workers told us that they feel very comfortable as it is a quiet area and the offices provide them with space and areas for the different times of the day and their needs", emphasise Denys and Von Arend.
