Institution Notre-Dame Saint-Jean, active pedagogy

Education

Target

With several centres ranging from nursery to higher education, the private Catholic educational complex, Institution Notre-Dame Saint-Jean, has entrusted Atelier Tardy with the expansion of its facilities in the French city of Besançon. A project with which the centre seeks to increase the capacity of its classrooms, promote flexibility and encourage micro-mobility, which also responds to its values of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Environmental Protection and Decarbonisation.

"The flexibility and modularity of Actiu's programmes allow the agile use of resources, materials and spaces in a sector, education, which is constantly evolving in the way students interact with new technologies and AI," says Philippe Bosdure, Manager of SMC BUREAU.

Solution

The Atelier Tardy extension project reflects the philosophy of Institution Notre-Dame Saint-Jean, a modern pedagogical approach, which integrates innovative classrooms and digital tools for active learning, and is focused on the well-being and innovation of its students and teachers. The team led by Olivier Tardy has intervened in the space to respond to a new learning model where change and flexibility are essential.

The architects have entrusted all the installation, logistics and storage services of the centre to SMC BUREAU, which has relied on Actiu to furnish the new areas. "The products selected are of good quality and easy to handle, with a modularity that allows users to interact easily with them and a colour that adds the freshness associated with youth," says Jérôme Longet, Head of Work, Safety and Hygiene.

To promote active pedagogy, allow group, individual and collaborative work configurations, and encourage quick transitions, programmes such as the Talent 500 tables, used in four rooms to create modular spaces that can simultaneously serve as classrooms, exam rooms or meeting rooms, have been chosen. In the cafeteria, the Globb soft seating, the colourful Wing chairs and the light Tabula tables offer different atmospheres for having a drink, meeting or simply resting; and in the large reception atrium, Bend modules, Tabula high tables and Noom 50 stools respond to different needs and forms of relationship.
