Coworking Wao, feeling at home

Workspaces

Target

The Wao Coworking space was created in Alicante with the aim of creating a welcoming and domestic atmosphere that makes its coworkers feel at home. The interior designer María Andes had to transform dark, compartmentalised offices with wooden and glass partitions from the sixties, situated in a privileged location in the heart of the city centre, into an open and bright environment. A coworking space that avoided the excessive decorative and colourful displays that characterise many of these spaces and that sought, above all, to transmit calm and relaxation.

"Decoration and interior design influence the way people relate to each other in the space, imbuing coworkers with a pleasant and domestic atmosphere, which lowers stress and improves their wellbeing".

Solution

After removing the partitions that divided the old offices and leaving only the structure, the WAO coworking space is organised on a single floor divided into a large open space, spacious private offices located around four interior courtyards that let in natural light and several rooms -two for meetings, one for podcasts and another, very versatile, for meetings and training-. "When the layout works, it's very easy for the rest to work as well," says María Andes, who stresses the importance of zoning and balancing zones, leaving areas of passage so that there is no friction between different uses.

From the entrance, where coworkers are welcomed with a large 3.60 m long counter and a corridor that acts as a reception, all the spaces, including the offices, are designed to be very spacious. To break up the monotony, more private corners have been created between them, with different atmospheres that invite chatting and conversation. Some of them are equipped with programmes such as Noom, which has also furnished the main open space. The operative area with the Stay operative chair and the Vital PRO tables, or the training room with the Fluit chair for collectivities and the Talent 300 folding and lifting table.

"I chose Actiu's furniture because of its guaranteed ergonomics and repositionability, and because of the composition of colours that its upholstery allowed, which is organic and fits in with the warm beige paint of the premises", adds the interior designer María Andes. The upholstery was chosen in a toasted tone, not too light so that it can withstand dirt, and the darkest colour is a fairly soft cauldron. In the large coworking room, the white of the tables enhances the reflection of light and luminosity, and oak is used in the offices. Biophilia is also present, through the landscaped courtyard at the entrance and artificial plants that integrate greenery in all the spaces.
