Grupo Guijarrón, maximum efficiency in the workspace

Target

Grupo Guijarrón, specialising in the operation of hospitality, development and construction businesses, has commissioned the studio headed by Nicola Tremacoldi to design the administrative and logistical headquarters of several of its companies in Barcelona. A lively working environment that facilitates interaction and makes no distinction between work and life, where the workers have the sensation of working in an open public space and for which the Italian architect based in Barcelona has reformed the third floor of a building designed in 1969 by Fargues and Tous.

"Actiu's modular, flexible and functional furniture has helped us to enhance collaboration and cooperation between workers and to get the maximum efficiency out of the space".

Solution

Taking advantage of the structure of the original building, which leaves the floor plan completely free, with facades and views of the street and the courtyard, Nicola Tremacoldi transforms a randomly organised and disorganised floor plan into an open floor plan reminiscent of a city. The new layout enhances the overall perception of the space and bathes even the most central and dark areas in abundant natural light.

With no reception or customer service area, the entrance is used to generate a common space where the kitchen is located and a rest/dining area reminiscent of a forest, with aromatic species that enhance wellbeing and connection with the natural environment. Next to the Forest emerges the central Plaza, with a continuous terrazzo paving that concentrates the work space. A 'Forum Office' around which the different work areas are distributed, like buildings overlooking the Plaza, with high-strength PVC floors imitating wood and glass enclosures that guarantee maximum transparency.

The efficiency of the workspace is achieved thanks to a modular, flexible and functional furniture system that allows different elements to be connected, facilitates collaboration and cooperation between workers and creates a visually more fluid office. Pieces such as the Twist desks, whose unique assembly system allows it to grow organically according to the needs; or the ergonomic Trim operative chairs, are the two programmes with which Actiu has participated in a project that, in order to have the maximum available surface area, places the furniture in the most suitable position. The cabinets and filing cabinets are located in strategic places, under the windows and in a corridor known as the 'dead end street'.
