Guijarrón Group, maximum workspace efficiency

Workspaces

Objective

Guijarrón Group, specialising in the operation of hospitality, development and construction businesses, commissioned the studio headed by Nicola Tremacoldi to design the administrative and logistical headquarters of several of its companies in Barcelona. A lively working environment that facilitates interaction and makes no distinction between work and life, where employees feel as though they are working in an open public space. To achieve this, the Italian architect based in Barcelona has renovated the third floor of a building designed in 1969 by Fargues y Tous.

"Actiu's modular, flexible and functional furniture has helped us to enhance collaboration and cooperation between workers and to get the maximum efficiency out of the space".

Solution

Taking advantage of the original building's structure, which leaves the floor completely open, with façades and views overlooking the street and the courtyard, Nicola Tremacoldi transforms a floor that was previously chaotic and disorganised into an open space reminiscent of a city. The new layout enhances the overall perception of space and floods even the most central and darkest areas with abundant natural light.

With no reception or customer service area, the entrance is used to generate a common space where the kitchen is located and a rest/dining area reminiscent of a forest, with aromatic species that boost well-being and connection with the natural environment. Next to the Forest is the central Plaza, with uninterrupted terrazzo flooring, which serves as the main workspace. An “Office Forum” around which the different work areas are distributed, like buildings facing the Plaza, with high-resistance wood-effect PVC flooring and glass walls that ensure maximum transparency.

Workspace efficiency is achieved through a modular, flexible and functional furniture system that allows different elements to be connected, facilitates collaboration and cooperation between employees, and creates a more visually fluid office. Pieces such as the Twist tables, whose unique assembly system allows them to grow organically according to needs, and the ergonomic Trim office chairs are the two ranges with which Actiu has participated in a project that, in order to maximise available space, places cabinets and filing cabinets in strategic locations, under windows and in a corridor known as “the dead-end street”.
