Madrid – Spain

SEPE focuses on ergonomics and dynamism

Workspaces

Objective

The Public State Employment Service (SEPE) and the Directorate General of the Public Employment Service of the Community of Madrid wanted the new headquarters in Santa Eugenia, in Vallecas (Madrid) to be an ergonomic and dynamic space, where the design would help to provide a better and more efficient service to the public, while improving the working environment.

Open-plan and agile, the new headquarters transforms the sober and cold image normally associated with institutional spaces into a modern, friendly and welcoming environment.

Solution

The design of the new headquarters is based on a spatial, open and fluid concept that promotes well-being, with over 2,000 square metres spread over two floors (with the SEPE offices on the ground floor, and the Directorate-General for the Public Employment Service of the Community of Madrid on the first floor); Actiu has collaborated on the project alongside its distributor, Momo Art Interiorismo.

On the floor dedicated to the SEPE, and to achieve greater fluidity and transparency, the waiting area is divided into several zones enclosed by wooden slats that provide privacy whilst allowing visitors a glimpse of what is happening in the large, open-plan workspace and customer service area. To encourage this dynamism and communication, the open-plan workspace is fitted with Twist desks, alongside Link partition panels, modular cabinets and lockers topped with planters, which help to separate different zones without compromising spatial continuity.

On the floor reserved for the General Directorate of the Public Employment Service of the Community of Madrid ( ), the corporate red colour is incorporated into certain pieces of furniture , such as the Bend modules in the meeting and waiting areas, and some task chairs in the open-plan space. Furniture ranges such as the Arkitek tables and the Cron executive chairs lend a distinctive and more elegant touch to the offices; whilst in the training rooms, the choice is for easily foldable and stackable solutions, such as the Talent tables and the Noom 50 chairs.
